Training Course on Smuggling of Migrants for Border Authorities and Prosecutors

Under the EU funded project “Enhanced Cooperation for Secure borders and Safe Migration” IOM arranged for officials from the Migration Department, Prosecutor’s Office, Border Police, Patrol Police and Criminal Police to attend a three day training course (3 - 5 November) on investigation in cases of Migrant Smuggling.  Although not as high profile and serious a challenge as Human Trafficking, organized Smuggling of Migrants is internationally recognized as being a crime to be prioritized by law enforcement authorities.  International Expert Adrian Loxton emphasised in his conclusions that to achieve the desired increase in successful prosecutions it is imperative for the identification, investigation and prosecution arms of government to be coordinated with open and clear communication channels.
